Introduction

Everyone who visits the West Mersea Free Church website should be able to access the content it provides without experiencing difficulties because of the way the site has been designed.

To help us make the website accessible to everyone, we are trying to follow Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and user friendly for everyone.

How accessible this website is

We’re working hard to achieve our goal of Level AA accessibility, but we realise there are some areas that still need improving. The following parts of the website have been identified as not yet accessible.

1.1.1: Non-text Content

Some non-text content, such as images, currently do not have alternative text available. Images across the site are in the process of being updated to provide alternative text.

1.2.2: Captions (Prerecorded)

There is currently no plan to provide transcripts for audio sermon recordings. For video recordings, automated captions are provided both on YouTube and Facebook, which are used across this site.

1.4.3: Contrast (Minimum)

In some cases, text contrast is not sufficient to meet the AA specification. Where this is the case, the page will be updated to improve the contrast level.

2.4.7: Focus Visible

Although keyboard focus is visible for many site components, there are some for which it is currently not visible, including some links. This will be changed in an upcoming site theme update.

2.5.3: Label in Name

In some cases, the accessible name of components are not provided. These will be updated manually across the site.
